We took my aunt to Union Square Park to show her how lovely our city park system is, small islands of nature in the sea of concrete and asphalt that constitutes this great city.
Walking through the park, I was reminded that we have our own statue of Abraham Lincoln right here in New York, I used to know the history of the statue, but it has been too long since I read about it. My aunt was happy to see Abraham Lincoln’s statue, she is very aware of his historical importance.
Today was a glorious day in the city and we had a very lovely time together.
It looks like a lovely day. Cheers!
It was a very lovely day. π
Hi Laurie, great pictures.
Kate.
Thanks Kate! π
The history of the statue? Well the ore was mined from a mountain. Melted, and some tin, copper, and various other metals mixed and melted in. Then cast in a giant mold before it was placed on top of a large piece of quarried granite.
Hope that helps. π
You’re funny, actually there was a story, when the statue was unveiled, the sculptor Mister Brown and his artistic vision were panned by critics from every newspaper. Mister Brown never lived it down, the critics eventually forgot about the statue, but this statue of Abraham Lincoln was famous for being an awful statue.
